Bhubaneswar: The Hirakud Dam authorities have opened two additional sluice gates on Friday as the reservoir continues to receive heavy inflow due to rainfall in the upper catchment areas.
With the latest order, the total number of open sluice gates has increased to 14 (9 on the left and 5 on the right). The sustained release of water from the dam is expected to further raise the water level in the Mahanadi river downstream.
The district administration has urged people residing in low-lying areas along the river to remain alert and take necessary precautions.
This comes amid a steady rise in the Hirakud Reservoir water level over the past 24 hours. More updates are expected as the situation develops.
