Bhubaneswar: Two persons were trampled to death by rough elephants in two separate incidents in Sundargarh district in the wee hours of Saturday, triggering panic among local residents. One incident occurred in the Koida forest area and the other in Biramitrapur.
As per reports, a 60-year-old woman named Sambari Munda was killed by a tusked elephant late last night at Koida forest area. Sambari, along with her daughter and granddaughter, had stepped out of their house to relieve themselves when they confronted with a tusker. The family members tried to flee in different directions, but Sambari was unable to escape. The elephant pulled her with its trunk and trampled her to death. Her daughter Balma was also injured in the attack after being pushed by the tusker.
Subsequently, local residents drove the elephant away and rushed Sambari to the Koida Community Health Centre, where doctors declared her dead.
In a separate incident at Kusumtoli under Biramitrapur police limits, a person identified as Ramchandra Gouda was killed in an elephant attack while he was out for a morning walk.
Residents have been advised to remain cautious, especially during early morning and late-night hours.
