Ravenshaw Varsity Row Continues: RUTA Says MLA Not A Senate Member

Cuttack: The controversy surrounding Ravenshaw University showed no signs of abating as the Ravenshaw University Teachers’ Association (RUTA) countered claims made by Kataka Sadar MLA Prakash Sethi.

Addressing a press conference, RUTA President Urmishree Vedmata clarified that the MLA is not a member of the university Senate.

“The process of forming the university’s Senate has not been completed yet and the final notification for the constitution of the Senate has not been issued. Therefore, Sethi has no basis to interfere in the activities of the university by claiming himself as a Senate member,” Vedmata said.

RUTA further stated that the letter written by the MLA to the Speaker has already become public. “After withdrawing the letter, the problem can be resolved,” the association suggested.

The teachers’ body asserted that until the Senate is formally constituted, no individual can claim membership or authority in university matters. RUTA Secretary Shiv Shankar Sahu, along with Raja Kishore Prusti and Madhusmita Rout, were also present at the press conference.

The remarks come amid ongoing debate over interference in university administration and the delayed formation of the Ravenshaw University Senate.
