Dhenkanal: Six girl students of Class VIII at the Government High School in Gondia area of Dhenkanal district fell ill during school hours on Friday, allegedly due to poor ventilation in an overcrowded classroom.
The students complained of discomfort and suddenly became unwell while attending classes. School authorities immediately shifted them to the Sriramchandrapur Community Health Centre, where they were admitted for treatment. Their condition is stated to be stable.
Preliminary information suggests that the classroom, designed to accommodate around 40 to 50 students, had more than 70 students seated at the time of the incident. The overcrowding reportedly restricted proper air circulation, leading to inadequate ventilation inside the room.
The lack of ventilation is suspected to have caused the students’ illness. The incident has raised concerns over classroom congestion and the need for adequate infrastructure to ensure a safe learning environment for students. Authorities are expected to examine the circumstances that led to the overcrowding.
