Bhubaneswar: With digital technology becoming an integral part of everyday life, SAI International School organised a Cyber Safety & Security Awareness Workshop for students of Classes VII–IX in collaboration with the Commissionerate of Police, Bhubaneswar–Cuttack, Government of Odisha, to promote responsible and secure digital practices among young learners.
The workshop featured an insightful session by Akshay Kumar Nayak, Assistant Commissioner of Police, In-Charge of IT & Social Media Cell, Bhubaneswar–Cuttack, and Swaraj Debata, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Commissionerate Police, Bhubaneswar–Cuttack. Through interactive discussions and practical guidance, the resource persons familiarised students with key aspects of cyber safety, including cyber hygiene, online privacy, protection of personal information, responsible social media usage, and identification of cyber threats.
Addressing the students, Akshay Kumar Nayak, Assistant Commissioner of Police, In-Charge of IT & Social Media Cell, said, “The digital space offers tremendous opportunities for learning, communication, and creativity, but it also requires users to exercise responsibility and judgement. Students must understand that every digital action carries a responsibility.”
Swaraj Debata, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Commissionerate Police, Bhubaneswar–Cuttack, said, “Young people are among the most active users of the digital world, which makes cyber awareness particularly important. Being safe online begins with simple but responsible habits, such as protecting personal information, verifying what we encounter online, and staying alert to suspicious activities. Awareness and caution can go a long way in preventing cyber-related risks.”
The workshop reinforced the idea that digital citizenship extends beyond the responsible use of technology. It involves critical thinking, awareness, respect for privacy, informed decision-making, and an understanding of the consequences of one’s actions in the online environment.
