Bhubaneswar: There has been a breach in the Kani river, a tributary of the Baitarani, triggering panic in Jajpur district as the Baitarani is flowing above the danger level due to the fourth flood of the season.
As per reports, floodwater has entered low-lying areas of Jajpur block and Dasarathpur block. During the last flood, two breaches had occurred in the Kani river. While repair work was underway, one of the breaches collapsed again, causing floodwater to enter villages. As a result, 10 villages under Tarapada Kaspa and Malikapur panchayats have been inundated.
Meanwhile, floodwater is flowing over the Motarangapala road in Jajpur block. Water has also entered Saptamatruka Temple, Jagannath Temple and Lakshmi Temple, disrupting daily rituals and worship.
The district administration is closely monitoring the situation as the river continues to remain above the danger mark.
