Bhubaneswar: A jail warder identified as Sibananda Swain was found dead by suicide at his residential quarters attached to Digapahandi sub-jail on Friday morning.
Swain, who had joined the Digapahandi sub-jail only about 15 days ago after a transfer from Puri, did not respond when staff tried to contact him around 10 a.m.
Colleagues then broke open the door of his quarters and discovered his body hanging inside.
Patapur police reached the spot, recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem examination. The reason behind the suicide remains unclear at this stage. Sanakhemundi Tahsildar visited the site and made inquiries.
Berhampur jail DIG also arrived at the jail to take stock of the situation. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.
