Anugola: An Odisha fast-track court has sentenced a 23-year-old youth to life imprisonment for raping a seven-year-old girl in Anugola district last year, an official said Friday.
The Ad-hoc Additional District & Sessions Judge-cum-Fast Track Special Court on Thursday convicted Satyabrata Mishra alias Kalia and sentenced him to life imprisonment. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 30,000 on him, government counsel said.
In case of default in payment of the fine, Mishra will undergo an additional one year of imprisonment.
The court directed that the entire fine amount, upon realisation, be paid to the victim. It also directed the authorities concerned to provide Rs 7 lakh in compensation to the girl under the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Mishra was convicted under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), POCSO Act and the SC & ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, the government counsel said.
According to the prosecution, Mishra lured the seven-year-old girl to a deserted place near their village on May 19, 2025, and sexually assaulted her. The prosecution further stated that the accused had sexually assaulted the minor a few days before the incident.
The victim’s mother lodged a complaint with the police on May 20, following which Mishra was arrested on May 22, 2025.
