Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Friday strongly condemned Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for mocking Prime Minister Narendra Modi and dragging the Italian Prime Minister into what he termed a “cheap political joke”.
Rahul Gandhi had taken a swipe at PM Modi’s foreign policy during the Rachnatmak Congress Organising National Convention in New Delhi on Thursday. He used a mock hug with party leader Sandeep Dikshit to poke fun at the Prime Minister’s interactions with foreign leaders.
In a statement, CM Majhi said the mask is completely off the Congress. He alleged that Rahul Gandhi and Sandeep Dikshit were once again proving how intellectually bankrupt and politically desperate the Congress has become.
“Dragging a woman Prime Minister of a friendly nation into a cheap political joke is not wit. It is a disgraceful display of poor judgement, political arrogance and utter disregard for diplomatic dignity. The laughter that followed only makes the episode more shameful,” Majhi said.
The Chief Minister further said the Congress has broken its own record of stooping low. “When there is no vision, they resort to ridicule. When there is no substance, they resort to spectacle. When there is no dignity, they make humiliation their politics,” he noted.
“India’s foreign relations and the dignity of women are far too serious to be reduced to Rahul Gandhi’s political theatrics. This is not the politics of a responsible Opposition. This is Congress at its intellectually bankrupt worst,” Majhi added.
