Sundaragada: A couple was killed and their three-year-old son critically injured after a speeding dumper truck collided with their motorcycle in Sundaragada district on Friday, police said.
The accident occurred around 4 pm near Bandhabahal Baradihi crossing under Kinjirkela police station limits, when the family was travelling on a motorcycle bearing registration number CG 14 MH-2613. A dumper truck (OD 16 P 5216), allegedly travelling at high speed, collided with the motorcycle.
The impact was so severe that the motorcycle was smashed and all three riders were thrown off. The husband and wife died on the spot, while their young son sustained critical injuries.
On being informed, local residents rushed to the spot and shifted the injured child to Community Health Center, Kinjirikela. He was later referred to Sundaragada district headquarters hospital for further treatment.
Police reached the spot, seized the dumper truck and sent the bodies of the deceased to a hospital for post-mortem examination. The identities of the deceased were yet to be ascertained when this report was filed.
Police have initiated an investigation into the accident.
