Sambalpur: Five more sluice gates of the Hirakud Dam have been opened on Monday. With this, floodwater is currently being discharged through a total of seven sluice gates of the dam (five on the left side and two on the right side). Earlier, two gates were already open.
According to the daily reservoir update issued at 8:00 am, the water level of Hirakud Reservoir stood at 619.00 feet and was rising. The average inflow was recorded at 1,71,478 cusecs, while the average outflow was 66,009 cusecs.
Of the total outflow, 31,038 cusecs were released through the spillway, 30,633 cusecs through the power channel, and the remaining through irrigation, industrial use and other channels. The live storage capacity of the reservoir was 2.320 million acre-feet, which is 59 per cent of its full capacity. Power generation from the Burla and Chiplima power houses stood at 271.875 MW.
The dam authorities are continuously monitoring the rising water level and inflow in view of the ongoing weather conditions.
