Baripada: Train services were disrupted in Mayurbhanj’s Baripada area on Monday after around 50 metres of railway track near Station Bazar- Sungadia has sunk due to continuous heavy rainfall.
According to reports, the track sinking was detected during the movement of DMU train at night after the Puri–Bangiriposi Superfast Express had reached Bangiriposi the previous day.
Upon receiving the information, the Railway Maintenance Department immediately launched repair work. Railway authorities have been present at the site since midnight and are continuing the restoration efforts.
Local residents have reported that the soil beneath the track is still sinking. They expressed concern that a major train accident could have occurred had the defect not been identified on time.
The Railway authorities are currently carrying out track repairs and inspecting the condition of the railway line. Train services on the affected route will resume only after the repair work is completed and the track is declared safe.
