Bhubaneswar: Mancheswar police have pasted a notice at the residence of a youth accused of allegedly cheating a woman by promising to marry her and later refusing to go ahead with the marriage, after his family allegedly failed to cooperate with the investigation for the past four months.
According to the complaint, the woman became acquainted with Abinash Mahapatra of Rasulgarh while she was staying in a hostel. The two subsequently developed a relationship, following which Abinash allegedly proposed marriage to her.
The woman’s family later agreed to the proposed marriage and the ring ceremony was held. However, after the marriage date was fixed, Abinash’s family allegedly refused to proceed with the wedding.
The woman subsequently lodged a complaint at Mancheswar police station in February, alleging that Abinash had established a physical relationship with her on the promise of marriage and later refused to marry her. Police registered an FIR in connection with the allegations.
Abinash was subsequently granted bail by a court. As part of the investigation, police have been visiting his residence, but the family allegedly did not cooperate with the probe despite repeated attempts over the past four months.
Police have now pasted a notice at the house directing the concerned persons to appear at Mancheswar police station on August 20 in connection with the investigation.
No immediate reaction could be obtained from the police, the woman or Abinash’s family regarding the development.
