Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government is according top priority to the supply of safe drinking water in flood-affected areas, with continuous and swift measures being taken to protect public health.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, in a post on social media, highlighted the ongoing efforts. As of 5 pm on August 17, water sources of 1,461 flood-affected tubewells and 89 Piped Water Supply (PWS) projects have been disinfected. Alongside disinfection of various water sources, regular testing of water quality is being carried out to ensure safe drinking water reaches the people.
Drinking water supply is being maintained through 27 water tankers, 69 Sintex tank vehicles and six mobile treatment units. In areas facing power outages, PWS projects are being kept operational with the help of DG sets.
The situation is being continuously monitored through control rooms, and all necessary steps are being taken promptly.
CM Majhi also stated that the government is also focusing on providing immediate healthcare services, medicines and medical check-ups in affected areas and relief camps. Special attention is being given to vulnerable groups such as pregnant women, children, the elderly and the sick to prevent water-borne diseases and safeguard public health.
