Bhubaneswar: A 55-year-old man was killed in an elephant attack in Kumurusingha village under Khajuriakta forest range of Hindol in Dhenkanal district in the early hours of Tuesday.
According to reports, an elephant entered the village at around 1.00 am and was moving along the village road. At that time, Purnichandra Dehuri of the village opened the door of his house and came out. The elephant reportedly grabbed him with its trunk and crushed him.
Family members immediately rushed Purnichandra to the Hindol Sub-Divisional Hospital in an ambulance. However, doctors there declared him brought dead.
The deceased has been identified as Purnichandra Dehuri of Kumurusingha village. Following the incident, grief has spread across the village. Forest department officials have reached the spot and are monitoring the movement of the elephant to prevent further incidents.
