Hirakud Dam Level Rises To 620.02 Ft, 14 Gates Open

Sambalpur: The water level in the Hirakud reservoir continued to rise on Tuesday, with the reservoir recording a level of 620.02 feet and 14 sluice gates remaining open to regulate the inflow, according to the latest three-hourly reservoir update.

Of the 14 gates, nine are open on the left side and five on the right. The average inflow into the reservoir was recorded at 2,24,614 cusecs, while the average outflow stood at 1,99,264 cusecs.

The outflow included 1,64,535 cusecs through the spillway and 31,756 cusecs through the power channel. Around 229 cusecs was released for industrial use, while 2,744 cusecs was being discharged through canals.

Meanwhile, downstream river gauges showed a rising trend at several locations. The discharge at Khairmal was recorded at 2,64,000 cusecs, while Barmul recorded 1,44,000 cusecs. At Mundali, the discharge stood at 1,60,938 cusecs and was showing a constant trend.

The latest figures also showed 19,000 cusecs at Belgaon and 48,736 cusecs at Patharla.

At 5 pm, the present outflow from Hirakud was reported at 2,53,987 cusecs, including 2,19,408 cusecs through the spillway, indicating continued high-volume discharge from the reservoir.

With the reservoir level showing a rising trend and substantial discharge continuing downstream, authorities are closely monitoring the situation along the Mahanadi system and downstream areas.
