Koraput: Panic gripped residents of Laxmipur in Koraput district after mild tremors accompanied by a loud sound were felt in the area on Tuesday evening, prompting several people to step out of their homes and shops as a precautionary measure.
According to local reports, the tremors were felt at around 8:39 pm. The sudden jolt startled residents, with several rushing outside their houses. Shopkeepers at the Laxmipur bus stand also reportedly came out of their establishments after experiencing the tremors.
A local resident, said several people contacted their relatives and acquaintances over the phone shortly after the incident to find out whether the tremors had been felt in other areas as well.
The tremors were also reportedly felt around the Narayanpatna area of the district.
“Laxmipur has experienced similar mild tremors in the past few months,” another local resident said.
There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage to property.
Official details regarding the magnitude, epicentre and depth of the reported seismic activity are awaited.
