Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissionerate Police has issued a public advisory against investment frauds and asked people to immediately dial cybercrime helpline number 1930 or report at cybercrime.gov.in if they fall victim to any online scam.
In a post shared on X, the Commissionerate Police warned that fraudsters are actively targeting citizens by offering ‘excessive profits’ to trap them into fake investment schemes. The police urged people to stay alert and not fall for such offers.
The advisory asked citizens to verify the registration of any company and investment platform before putting in money. It also advised people to stay away from unknown mobile applications and unauthorized investment websites that are not registered with regulatory authorities.
Police further cautioned against sharing sensitive information such as OTPs, PINs, bank details, and other personal data with strangers. Citizens have been asked to immediately report any suspicious investment proposals to the authorities.
Referring to the common tactic used by scammers, the Commissionerate Police said that ‘the promise of excessive profit can be a sign of fraud’.
The Commissionerate Police ended the advisory with a clear message: ‘Be Alert. Be Safe. Protect Your Hard-Earned Money.’
