Jayapur: An 18-year-old youth was stabbed to death by a group of people on Sauraguda road near Ratnakarguda on National Highway 26 in Jayapur on Thursday.
The deceased has been identified as Debashish Kishan Kuldeep, a second-year student of Borigumma College and a resident of KBD village. According to police, Kishan had come to Jayapur to get his mobile phone and bike repaired. He was first attacked in front of a bike showroom at Ratnakarguda and then chased and stabbed again on Sauraguda road.
He sustained injuries in four places and was rushed to the district headquarters hospital in Jayapur in critical condition, where doctors declared him dead.
Kishan’s maternal uncle Jagdish Khara has alleged that eight people, including the nephew of a local politician, attacked his nephew with knives.
Following the incident, hundreds of people blocked National Highway 26 in front of the district hospital demanding immediate arrest of the accused. The road blockade led to a traffic jam with hundreds of vehicles stranded on both sides for nearly four hours.
Jayapur SDPO Achita Mittal, Sadar Police Station IIC Sachindra Pradhan and Town Police Station IIC Ullas Chandra Rout reached the spot. Jayapur Deputy District Magistrate Jadumani Nayak also reached there and held discussions with the agitators.
After assurance from the administration, the blockade was lifted. Town Police has registered a murder case in connection with the killing. A scientific team has visited the spot and started investigation.
Meanwhile, Sadar Police has registered a case against 20 people for obstructing public life by blocking the road in front of the District Headquarters Hospital, IIC Sachindra Pradhan said.
