Bhubaneswar: The Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhabanipatana, has sentenced three persons, including two retired engineers of NAC Khariar in Nuapada district, to three years’ simple imprisonment and imposed fines on each in a government money misappropriation case.
The convicts are Umesh Chandra Tripathy, former Assistant Engineer (retired), and Jayanta Narayan Panda, former Junior Engineer (retired), both of NAC Khariar, and contractor Prasanna Kumar Mahana.
The three were charge-sheeted by the Odisha Vigilance under Section 13(2) read with Section 13(1)(d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and Sections 420 and 120-B of the IPC in connection with the misappropriation of government funds during road improvement and CC works in the NAC area.
After hearing the case, the Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhabanipatna, convicted all three accused and sentenced each of them to undergo simple imprisonment for three years besides payment of fine.
Following the conviction, Odisha Vigilance will move the competent authority for stoppage of the pension of Tripathy and Panda, the two retired government engineers.
