Jayapur: Five persons, including two children in conflict with law (CCLs), have been apprehended in connection with the stabbing death of a 19-year-old boy near a KTM showroom in Jayapur, Koraput district, police said on Saturday.
The incident was reported on August 21, following which Jayapur Town Police registered a case under Sections 103(1), 190, 191(2) and 191(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Inspector Ullash Rout is investigating the case.
According to police, the victim was wrongfully restrained and stabbed near the KTM showroom and later succumbed to his injuries the same day. The crime scene was secured and a scientific team collected blood samples from the spot for forensic examination. An inquest and postmortem were subsequently conducted before the body was handed over to the family.
Police analysed CCTV footage from the area to identify the accused and trace their movements after the crime. The investigation reportedly established the involvement of five persons — Jaga Harijan (20), Dinesh Takiri (20), Chandra Kanta Harijan (18) and two CCLs.
Acting on reliable information, police conducted a raid near Parabeda in the early hours of August 22 and apprehended Jaga Harijan. During interrogation, he allegedly confessed to his involvement and disclosed the names of the other accused.
Based on his statement, police recovered and seized a knife and an iron rod from a concealed location in the presence of government witnesses. Dinesh Kumar Harijan and Chandra Kanta Harijan were subsequently arrested, while the two CCLs were apprehended.
Police have also seized relevant CCTV footage following due procedure under the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA), besides the alleged weapons, two black Hero Splendor motorcycles used in the crime and mobile phones belonging to the accused.
The investigation is underway, police said.
