Bhubaneswar: Baleshwar district has received its highest combined July-August rainfall in 19 years, according to the India Meteorological Department data.
Going by the data, the cumulative rainfall from July 1 to August 23, 2026 has already touched 1,168.6 mm. This is higher than the full July-August totals recorded in any year between 2008 and 2025.
IMD figures show that the previous highest was 969.23 mm in 2014, followed by 805.19 mm in 2022 and 730.37 mm in 2009. Most other years during the period recorded significantly lower rainfall, with several remaining below 600 mm.
With more than a week still left in August, the 2026 total has already set a clear record for the two-month period in the last 19 years.
