Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has proposed a rehabilitation programme for around 2,200 cattle through the establishment of a dedicated Cattle Rehabilitation Centre at Jamukoli near Sundarpada in Khordha district.
According to the civic body, the proposed facility will provide lifetime care to diseased, injured, disabled, abused and elderly cattle rescued from urban and peri-urban areas of Bhubaneswar.
The rehabilitation centre is expected to follow stringent protocols for cattle housing, feeding and healthcare. It will also have a digitised system for maintaining records of the cattle, along with measures for proper waste management and the utilisation of cow dung.
The facility will be equipped with state-of-the-art veterinary healthcare services to ensure timely treatment and care for rescued cattle.
“These proposed interventions will collectively contribute to the overall welfare of the cattle population,” the BMC said in a post on X on Tuesday.
The initiative aims to provide a structured and long-term rehabilitation mechanism for cattle rescued from roads and other vulnerable locations across the city and its peripheral areas.
