Sundaragada: An undertrial prisoner lodged in jail in connection with a murder case escaped from a hospital in Sundaragada on Tuesday night, reportedly after seeking permission to use the toilet while being taken there for treatment.
The prisoner, identified as Tekchand Behera of Rupabahal village under Sadar police station in Sundaragada district, escaped from the medical facility at around 9 pm, reports said.
Behera had been lodged in jail since April last year in connection with a murder case. He was brought to the hospital for treatment when he allegedly took advantage of the situation and fled on the pretext of using the toilet.
Soon after the incident came to light, police launched a search operation to trace the absconding undertrial. Raids were conducted at several places under the Town police station limits as part of efforts to nab him.
