Kataka: A data entry operator working at the office of the Superintendent of SCB Medical College and Hospital in Kataka was arrested on Friday for his alleged involvement in a financial irregularity of Rs 1.40 crore.
The accused was arrested by Mangalabag Police based on a complaint filed by the SCB Superintendent.
According to reports, the data entry operator was handling salary-related data and work of the employees of the medical college. During an audit, discrepancies and tampering in the salary data were detected. The audit report revealed that the manipulation of data had allegedly led to a financial irregularity to the tune of Rs 1.40 crore.
Katak DCP said, “After the audit report revealed the irregularities, the Superintendent of SCB Medical College and Hospital lodged a formal complaint at Mangalabag Police Station. Acting on the complaint, we initiated an investigation and have arrested the data entry operator.The accused has been identified as Dinesh Rout, a native of Rajkanika in Kendrapara district. He was residing in the Mangalabag area in Kataka.”
He further said, “Preliminary investigation suggests that he was diverting the salary of other employees to his own bank account by manipulating the salary data. We are currently verifying all his bank accounts and transactions in detail.We are also investigating whether he has purchased any movable or immovable property using the embezzled money. The accused will be produced before the court and we will seek his remand for further interrogation. His service-related documents and bank statements are currently under scrutiny.”
