Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance today trapped a Junior Revenue Assistant (JRA) of Patana Tahasil in Kendujhar district while demanding and accepting a bribe for mutation work.
The accused has been identified as BH Umashankar, Junior Revenue Assistant at the Patana Office of the Tahasildar.
According to Vigilance, Umashankar was caught red-handed while taking a bribe of Rs 6,000 from an applicant for processing his file in a mutation case and facilitating issuance of ROR (land patta).The complainant had applied online on June 3, 2026, for mutation of his land as per government rules. When he enquired about the status, the JRA demanded Rs 6,000 to process the file.
Finding no other option, the applicant alerted the Vigilance authorities. Acting on the complaint, a Vigilance team laid a trap today and nabbed Umashankar in the garage of the Tahasil office while he was accepting the bribe amount. The entire tainted money of Rs 6,000 has been recovered from his possession and seized.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches are underway at two locations linked to Umashankar from a disproportionate assets angle. In this connection, Baleshwar Vigilance PS Case No. 17/2026 under Section 7 of the PC (Amendment) Act, 2018 has been registered. Investigation is in progress.
