Kandhamala: Security forces recovered a concealed Maoist dump containing firearms, explosives, ammunition and other camp-use articles during a joint search operation in Kandhamala district on Friday, police said on Saturday.
Acting on credible intelligence inputs, a multi-party operation was launched in Maoist-affected areas of the district involving personnel of the Special Operations Group (SOG), Border Security Force (BSF) and District Voluntary Force (DVF).
During the operation, DVF personnel detected a concealed Maoist dump near Matrabadi village under Daringbadi police station limits on August 28.
According to Kandhamala SP Ramendra Prasad, the recovery was made after security personnel took necessary precautions and conducted a systematic search of the area.
The Bomb Disposal Squad was subsequently deployed as part of the operation. Security personnel recovered two-bore rifles, a single-shot rifle, an SBL grenade, 19 electric detonators, two tiffin-box IEDs, a bundle of Cordex and two gelatin sticks.
The seized ammunition included 13 rounds of .303 ammunition and 10 rounds of single-shot ammunition. Several other articles used in Maoist camps were also recovered from the dump.
The operation involved nine teams comprising personnel from the SOG, BSF and DVF.
The SP said such operations would continue in vulnerable and Maoist-affected areas in the future.
