Nuapada: At least 12 people, including six school students, were injured after a car allegedly rammed into a private school van from behind on the Biju Expressway in Nuapada district on Saturday.
The accident occurred near Latkanpada village on the Amapani-Biju Expressway when the school van was reportedly returning home with students after school hours. According to preliminary information, the car crashed into the van from behind with considerable force, causing the school vehicle to lose balance and overturn on the road.
Six students travelling in the van were among those injured, while six other persons also sustained injuries in the collision. All the injured were subsequently rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital in Nuapada for treatment.
The accident triggered concern among local residents and commuters, with the mishap briefly disrupting movement on the busy stretch.
The condition of the injured students and other victims was not immediately known.
The incident has once again brought road safety into focus, particularly the need for greater caution while transporting schoolchildren along busy highways and expressways.
