Odisha CHSE Makes Internal Exam Mandatory For Ex-Regular Plus II Students

Bhubaneswar: The Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE), Odisha, has made it mandatory for ex-regular Plus II students to appear for internal examinations, giving those who had skipped the internal assessment earlier an opportunity to complete the 20-mark component.

CHSE Controller of Examinations Dr Prasanta Kumar Parida on Saturday said the new provision has been introduced this year as part of the revised assessment framework for ex-regular candidates.

“This year, we have introduced a new rule under which ex-regular candidates will also have to appear for the internal examinations. This will give an opportunity to those who did not appear for the internal examination earlier,” Parida said.

Under the new rule, the marks secured by a candidate in the internal examination will remain valid for three years. However, if a student fails to clear the Plus II examination within the three-year period, he or she will have to appear for the internal examination again.

“The internal examination carries 20 marks. If a candidate remains unsuccessful for three years, he or she will have to take the internal examination again,” Parida said.

Ex-regular candidates are students who have previously appeared for the Plus II examination but failed to clear one or more subjects and are subsequently given opportunities to appear again.

Earlier, ex-regular Plus II students were required to appear only for the 80-mark theory examination, while their internal assessment marks were carried forward. Under the new provision, however, they will also have to appear for the internal examination to fulfil the 20-mark internal assessment component.

The move is aimed at ensuring that ex-regular candidates also complete the internal assessment component under the revised evaluation system.

The new rule will apply to candidates appearing under the revised assessment framework of the state board.
