Bhubaneswar: Odisha Police felicitated its medal-winning sportspersons on Friday on the occasion of National Sports Day, commemorating the birth anniversary of legendary hockey player Major Dhyan Chand.
Director General of Police Vinaytosh Mishra felicitated the athletes at a ceremony held at the DGP Camp Office here, lauding their dedication, hard work and sporting excellence.
The athletes have brought laurels to Odisha and Odisha Police through their impressive performances in national-level kayaking and canoeing competitions. The DGP congratulated the sportspersons and encouraged them to continue their efforts to enhance the reputation of Odisha Police at the national and international levels.
Odisha Police athletes put up a strong show at the ASMITA National Aquatics Championship 2026, held in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, on August 8 and 9, winning eight medals, including two gold, five silver and one bronze.
WC/1366 Rashmita Sahu won three medals in canoeing. She clinched gold in the single 1,000-metre event and silver medals in the 500-metre and 200-metre events.
WC/349 Sachima Keraketa also bagged three medals, winning gold in the canoeing-4 200-metre event and silver in the 500-metre and 1,000-metre events.
WC/322 Phulmani Khakha added two more medals to Odisha Police’s tally, securing silver in kayaking-2 200 metres and bronze in the single 1,000-metre event.
Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Sanjay Kumar was also present at the felicitation ceremony and encouraged the athletes for their achievements.
Odisha Police Sports Officer Nilamadhab Swain conducted the programme.
