Bhubaneswar: The ordeal of women who are not getting maintenance from their husbands despite court orders is set to end, with Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi taking a stern stand against such male government employees.
It has come to notice that many male employees of the state government are not paying maintenance to their wives or children, including alimony after divorce. Even after hearings in various courts and clear orders, they continue to neglect the payment. On an average, two to three such cases are reported in the Chief Minister’s grievance cell during every public hearing.
Taking a strict approach, the Chief Minister has ordered that the maintenance amount be deducted directly from the salary of the concerned employees. He said that contempt of court and such mistreatment of wives and children by government employees is completely unacceptable.
On the instructions of the Chief Minister, the state government has issued new guidelines in this regard. As per the instruction, after receiving the court’s order for payment of alimony, the concerned DDO will prepare the monthly salary bill of the employee, deduct the amount fixed by the court and deposit it directly into the bank account of the wife or child through electronic mode.
The Chief Minister has also directed that court-ordered maintenance matters be integrated into the state’s integrated and automated HRMS system in the coming days to further streamline the process. The initiative will not only ensure compliance with court orders but also provide significant relief to the affected women and children.
