Bhubaneswar: Odisha has signed four memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with international technology and energy companies and Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore, to strengthen research and development in renewable energy and emerging clean energy technologies, the state government said on Thursday.
The agreements were signed at the Asia Clean Energy Summit (ACES), held as part of Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW) 2026 from October 27 to 29. They cover artificial intelligence (AI), energy storage, digitalisation, smart grids, microgrids and green hydrogen.
Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo said the partnerships would help accelerate Odisha’s clean energy transition, enhance energy security and strengthen the state’s potential as a destination for clean energy investment and innovation.
The MoUs expand a research collaboration initiated in January 2023, when the Energy Department partnered with NTU Singapore and IIT Bhubaneswar to advance renewable energy technologies. The latest agreements bring additional industry expertise into joint research and technology development.
Under the agreement with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Singapore, the partners will undertake joint research on digitalisation and AI-enabled workbench solutions for smart governance and consumer services.
The MoU with Singapore-based VFlowTech focuses on flow battery technologies to improve energy storage and grid resilience, while the agreement with PHENOGY, Singapore, covers sodium-ion battery-based energy storage systems for grid applications.
The fourth agreement, with Finland-based DANFOSS Drives Oy, will focus on next-generation microgrids, smart grid integration and green hydrogen production.
Debidutta Tripathy, Special Secretary in the Odisha Energy Department, and Prof. Madhavi Srinivasan, Executive Director of the Energy Research Institute at NTU (ERI@N), signed the MoUs on behalf of the state government and NTU, respectively.
GRIDCO Managing Director Satya Priya Rath, GRIDCO Director (Commercial) Debasish Das and IIT Bhubaneswar Dean (PG and Research) Prof. Subhransu Ranjan Samantaray also attended the summit.
During the event, Odisha’s Energy Department delegation held discussions with Singapore Minister of State for Trade and Industry Siow Huang Gan and representatives of Singapore’s Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Trade and Industry, including Permanent Secretary (Energy and Trade) Augustin L. The delegation briefed them on collaborative initiatives involving GRIDCO, IIT Bhubaneswar and NTU Singapore.
The state government said the agreements would deepen international cooperation and industry-academia partnerships, promote technological innovation and support Odisha’s long-term renewable energy goals.
