Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance arrested Madan Mohan Pradhan, Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police, Lahunipada Police Station in Sundargarh district, and his associate Mandeep Kumar Dasmodak for allegedly demanding and taking a bribe of Rs 20,000 from an eatery owner.
According to Vigilance, on the late night of August 29, the ASI had demanded the bribe from the eatery owner to not arrest him and to help him in an Excise case registered against him and his younger brother. The ASI had threatened that if the amount was not paid, he would arrest him and forward him to court. Finding no alternative, the eatery owner lodged a complaint with Vigilance.
Acting on the complaint, a trap was laid on the night of August 29, during which both Pradhan and his private associate were caught red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe of Rs 20,000.
The entire bribe money was recovered and seized in presence of witnesses.Soon after the trap, Vigilance officials conducted searches at Pradhan’s government quarter at Lahunipada, his house at native village Mahuldiha under Mahulpada police station, and his office chamber.
Both accused have been arrested and are being forwarded to court today. In this connection, Rourkela Vigilance PS registered a case under Section 7 of Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. Investigation is underway.
