Bhubaneswar: A Special Vigilance Court in Sambalpur on Monday sentenced former Assistant Revenue Inspector (ARI) Durga Prasad Sahu to one year of rigorous imprisonment (RI) and imposed a fine for demanding and accepting a bribe.
Sahu, who was posted at the Lapanga RI Circle under Rengali Tahasil in Sambalpur district, was charge-sheeted by the Odisha Vigilance in a bribery case registered under Sections 13(2) read with 13(1)(d) and Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
According to an official press release, Sahu had demanded and accepted a bribe from an applicant for submitting a favourable report in a mutation case.
The Special Judge, Vigilance, Sambalpur, convicted Sahu and sentenced him to one year of rigorous imprisonment besides imposing a fine.
Following his conviction, the Odisha Vigilance will move the competent authority for stoppage of Sahu’s pension, the release stated.
