Phulbani: A migrant labourer by day and an engineering student by evening, Rinku Uthan Singh has turned a difficult struggle for survival into an inspiring story of perseverance and success.
Hailing from Matipada village in Daringbadi block of Kandhamala district, Rinku worked as a migrant labourer in Kerala while pursuing his engineering studies, determined to build a better future despite the financial hardships faced by his family.
Rinku enrolled in the Electronics and Instrumentation department of an engineering college in Kerala. To support himself and meet his daily needs, he continued working as a migrant labourer alongside his studies. Balancing physically demanding work with academic commitments, he eventually completed his B.Tech degree.
His achievement has brought joy to his family and pride to his village. More importantly, Rinku’s journey has emerged as a source of encouragement for other young people from Kandhamala who have had to discontinue their education and migrate to other states in search of work.
Rinku’s mother is Prachiska Uthan Singh, and he has three brothers. The family faced a major setback after their father died while he was away working as a migrant labourer. Following his death, all four brothers worked as migrant labourers in Kerala to support themselves and the family.
Amid these circumstances, Rinku continued to pursue his education without giving up his livelihood. His success in obtaining a B.Tech degree while working as a migrant labourer has now become a testament to his determination and a reminder that economic hardship need not bring an end to one’s aspirations.
