Bhubaneswar: Three wards under the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) have secured top positions in the Swachh Vayu Survekshan conducted by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), highlighting the civic body’s efforts to curb air pollution and improve the city’s air quality.

Ward Nos. 30 and 36 secured the first rank at the national level among Category-II cities with populations ranging from 3 lakh to 10 lakh. Ward No. 22 also secured the first position at the state level.

The awards were presented by National Green Tribunal (NGT) Chairperson Justice Prakash Shrivastava in the presence of senior officials from the MoEFCC and the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) at a special ceremony held at Ganga Auditorium, Indira Paryavaran Bhawan, in New Delhi, on September 7, observed as Clean Air Day.

BMC Commissioner Chanchal Rana and Mayor Sulochana Das received the awards on behalf of the civic body.

The achievement is significant as the Swachh Vayu Survekshan assesses cities and wards on several parameters linked to air-quality management and pollution control. The assessment includes dust-control measures, plantation and expansion of green cover, vehicular emission control, scientific waste management, and the management of construction and demolition (C&D) waste.

The top rankings secured by the three wards reflect the BMC’s sustained efforts to address air pollution and promote a cleaner and healthier urban environment.

The recognition is expected to provide further impetus to the civic body’s ongoing efforts to strengthen pollution-control measures and improve environmental conditions across the city.
