Baragada: Police busted illegal cough syrup trade and seized 813 bottles of codeine-based cough syrup concealed in a secret underground chamber. The seizure was made under Bhatli Police limits under sections 21(b)/25/29 of NDPS Act.
Acting on credible information on September 8, Bhatli police team conducted raid at house of Suryakanta Sahu of Badmal village. During raid, police detected a secret underground chamber at backside of his house premises where 813 numbers of 100 ml cough syrup bottles of Eskuf and Winerex brands containing Codeine Phosphate and Triprolidine Hydrochloride were concealed illegally.
During raid, Suryakanta Sahu was found absent. His wife and associate Parbati Sahu (40), wife of Suryakanta Sahu of Badmal in Baragada, was caught red-handed and arrested.
Police seized six packets containing 813 cough syrup bottles, cash of Rs 3,33,600, two four-wheelers – a white Mahindra Bolero bearing registration number OD 17 Z 3019 and a black Mahindra Thar bearing registration number OD 17 AH 3422, four mobile phones including Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra and Vivo V25 Pro, SBI passbook, ATM cards, Aadhaar card and voter card.
The accused has been forwarded to court after observing all formalities. Search is on for absconding accused Suryakanta Sahu.
