Bhubaneswar: During a special operation, Excise Intelligence and Enforcement Bureau Unit-1 (Flying Squad), Cuttack and Kendrapara District Excise Departments today unearthed two major excise cases in Kendrapara district.
The raids were conducted under directions of Superintendent of Excise Samarjit Dash and under supervision of Deputy Superintendent of Excise Roshan Isu Hansda. In the first case, a raid was conducted at the house of accused Sitamber Sethi (78) at Rajnagar village under Rajnagar police station.
During the raid, 325.71 litres of Foreign Liquor (IMFL) and 59.15 litres of beer along with sale proceeds of Rs 4,520 were seized from his possession. The value of seized liquor is approximately Rs 3.39 lakh. The accused has been arrested and sent to judicial custody.
In another raid conducted near Mahinshasur village road under Rajnagar police station, 48.75 litres of beer were seized from accused Vijay Kumar Jena of Mahinshasur village.
The value of seized liquor is approximately Rs 11,212. The accused has been arrested and sent to judicial custody. The raiding team comprised Excise Inspectors Hira Dalapati and Sushant Kumar Mahapatra, Excise Sub-Inspector Santosh Kumar Swain, ASIs Kishore Kumar Rout and Sumati Mohanty, and constables Annapunya Ganda, Rosalyn Behera, Sasmita Sahu, Chandrakant Sahu, Jagannath Sahu, Ranjit Sahu and Prithvi Kumar Dash.
The Excise Department said it will continue such raids to check liquor smuggling in the district. Total value seized in both cases is around Rs 3.55 lakh.
