Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has ordered a detailed inquiry into alleged financial irregularities and misuse of government funds in Bhubaneswar R&B Division-I, with Works Department officials directed to fix responsibility and recommend measures to prevent recurrence.
Law, Works and Excise Minister Prithviraj Harichandan has directed the Works Department to conduct a comprehensive investigation under the chairmanship of a senior department officer and submit its report at the earliest.
The inquiry will examine all aspects of the allegations, establish the facts and fix responsibility on employees and officers found guilty. The report will also suggest corrective measures to prevent similar incidents in future.
The Minister has further directed all Superintending Engineers of different Works Department divisions to verify unaudited accounts and submit reports countersigned by the respective Chief Construction Engineers (CCEs). The exercise has been accorded top priority and officials have been asked to complete it urgently.
As part of the immediate action, the Works Department on Friday removed the Superintending Engineer posted in Bhubaneswar R&B Division-I and appointed another officer in his place.
The government reiterated its zero-tolerance approach towards corruption and said immediate action was initiated after the allegations came to its notice.
