Bhubaneswar: As India gears up to host the 18th BRICS Summit at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi today, an artist from Odisha has come up with a unique tribute to the world leaders.
Bijay Kumar, a 23-year-old electrical engineer from Odisha, has created miniature portraits of the leaders of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa on chalk. His intricate work brings together art, diplomacy and current affairs, turning a simple piece of chalk into a canvas. The detailed artworks have drawn attention for their precision, with even small facial features carefully recreated within a limited space of just about one centimetre. The creation also features BRICS lettering, national flags and the 2026 summit logo.
It took nearly a month for Bijay to complete the entire artwork using specialised micro-tools.
Bijay Kumar is a professional electrical engineer working at Tata Power. He is also a Guinness World Records holder known for his miniature craftsmanship and has received several recognitions from the government and other institutions.
According to reports, the South African Embassy has contacted Kumar about sending the artwork abroad.
Miniature art requires considerable patience and control, especially when the artwork involves recognisable faces. Bijay said his small homage is an effort to promote Odisha’s art and culture internationally, as well as a welcome gesture for the summit.
