Jharsuguda: The Jharsuguda Police has warned people and Ganesh Puja organisers against the illegal collection of ‘Chanda’ (donations) and urged them to ensure peaceful and safe celebrations during the festival on September 14, police said on Saturday.
In an advisory issued ahead of Ganesh Puja, the police said illegal collection of donations is a crime and cautioned against forcing, threatening, intimidating or pressuring individuals to contribute money for the celebrations.
“No person or group should force, threaten, intimidate or pressure anyone to make a contribution for Ganesh Puja,” the advisory said.
The police further cautioned against collecting money without the consent of individuals or using threats, political influence or other forms of pressure to obtain contributions.
The Jharsuguda Police appealed to Puja committees and organisers to obtain the necessary permissions as per rules and ensure that public celebrations do not cause inconvenience to others.
It also urged organisers and members of the public to maintain peace and law and order during the festivities and keep public places clean and safe.
The police called upon people to celebrate Ganesh Puja with devotion, respect and unity and cooperate with the authorities to ensure a peaceful festival.
