Bhubaneswar: Turning discarded materials into a work of art, Odisha’s renowned miniature artist L Eshwar Rao has created a 9-inch Ganesh pandal to mark Ganesh Puja this year, giving his annual artwork an eco-friendly touch.
Rao, a resident of Gopinathpur in the Hat Bazaar area of Jatni in Khordha district, has been creating miniature artworks for various occasions. As part of his annual tradition of making something new for Ganesh Puja, he has this year crafted a tiny pandal using waste paper, cardboard, thread and other discarded materials.
The miniature pandal, measuring just nine inches, took Rao seven days to complete. Adding to its uniqueness, he has placed a two-inch Lord Ganesh idol made of stone inside the tiny structure.
“Every year, I make something new for Ganesh Puja. This year, I wanted to create something unique using waste materials. I collected waste paper, cardboard, thread and other discarded items and used them to make the miniature pandal,” Rao said.
He said the artwork is not only an attempt to showcase miniature art but also carries a message of environmental conservation.
“Through my artwork, I would like to wish everyone a very Happy Ganesh Puja. At the same time, I request everyone to avoid using plastic and Plaster of Paris for decorations during Ganesh Puja so that we can protect our environment,” Rao said.
Rao’s miniature creations have often attracted attention for their intricate detailing despite their diminutive size. His latest Ganesh Puja artwork combines his passion for miniature art with a message on sustainable celebrations.
As devotees across Odisha celebrate Ganesh Puja, Rao’s tiny pandal stands out for its unusual concept and use of materials that would otherwise have been discarded.
