Bhubaneswar: With the possible deep depression over the Bay of Bengal expected to cross the north Andhra Pradesh-south Odisha coast between Visakhapatnam and Gopalpur during the night of September 23 and early hours of September 24, the Ganjam district administration has intensified preparedness measures.
Aiming for zero loss of life, District Collector V. Keerthi Vasan on Tuesday inspected several shelters in Chikiti and Patrapur blocks and reviewed the arrangements to deal with any emergency.
He directed officials to ensure adequate availability of essential facilities, including drinking water, electricity, food and medicines, at all shelters.
The Collector also interacted with fishermen at Ramayapatna and advised them not to venture into the sea in view of the adverse weather conditions.
He urged fishermen and residents to strictly follow all safety advisories and directions issued by the district administration as the weather system approaches the coast.
