Bhubaneswar: Odisha has 23,956 small and large broiler poultry farms and 189 commercial layer poultry farms, producing around 164,000 metric tonnes of poultry meat and 40,913 lakh eggs annually, Fisheries & Animal Resources Development Minister Gokulananda Mallik informed the state assembly on Wednesday.
In a written reply to a question by Jharsuguda MLA Tankadhar Tripathy, Mallik said the state’s poultry farms produced 40,913 lakh eggs and 164 thousand metric tonnes of poultry meat during the financial year 2025-26.
The minister said several private companies have invested in Odisha’s poultry sector, primarily through integration. Companies currently operating in the state include IB Group, Suguna Feeds, Japfa, Venky’s, Pashupati Agrovet, Eastern Hatcheries, Utkal Feeds, Salimar Group, Poultech, Amrit Feeds, Baramati, Bhairabi, Kalpana Poultry, Gurukrupa Chicks, Poultry Premium Chicks and Sahoo Broiler.
The state’s poultry industry also caters to markets outside Odisha. According to the minister, poultry meat is exported to other states, though specific government data on the quantity exported is not currently available.
However, records maintained by poultry meat-producing companies indicate that around 49,000 metric tonnes of poultry meat was exported to other states during 2025-26.
On the pricing of broiler chicken, Mallik said prices are determined by producers and traders based on the cost of production, supply and demand, and prevailing wholesale market conditions.
The government currently has no specific guidelines for fixing the price of poultry meat, he said.
