Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Tuesday informed the Assembly about the status of Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies (PACS) and Large Area Multipurpose Cooperative Societies (LAMPS/LAMPCS) in the state.
In a written reply to a question raised by MLA, Cooperation Minister Pradeep Bal Samanta said that till now 3554 PACS and 787 LAMPS have been established in the state. Out of these, 4,222 are functional, while 87 are in dormant condition, 23 are in moribund condition and 9 PACS/LAMPS have been liquidated.
The Minister further informed that under the digital transformation drive, PACS/LAMPS are being brought under NLPS and computerization project. The offices of Registrar of Cooperative Societies are being computerized and records are being digitized.
As per the reply, Model Bye-Laws have been adopted for diversification of business activities of PACS/LAMPS. Besides crop loan, PDS, seed and fertilizer distribution, the societies are now being enabled to provide services like Common Service Centre (CSC), LPG distributorship and other non-credit services to increase their income.
