Athagada (Kataka): A prisoner serving a sentence in a double murder case escaped from Athagada Model Jail in Kataka district on Thursday, triggering a search operation in the surrounding area.
The escaped inmate, identified as Sunil Jena of Jajpur district, reportedly fled during the evening roll call.
According to preliminary information, Jena had been lodged in the jail for the past eight months in connection with a double murder case registered in the Dharmasala area.
He allegedly climbed a pipe at the rear of a jail building, scaled the perimeter wall by crossing the barbed wire and escaped into a nearby forest.
After being alerted, Khuntuni police launched a search operation to trace the escaped prisoner.
