Bhubaneswar: Proceedings of the Odisha Assembly were disrupted for the fourth consecutive day on Friday as Opposition BJD and Congress members stormed the well of the House, raising slogans over the MMDR Amendment Act, 2026, and the school textbook fiasco.
Amid the continued uproar, Deputy Speaker Bhabani Shankar Bhoi adjourned the House till 4 pm.
The disruption began soon after the House reassembled for Question Hour. As School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond stood up to reply to a question, Opposition members entered the well and raised slogans, forcing repeated interruptions to the proceedings.
BJD members protested over errors in school textbooks and demanded the resignation of Gond, holding him responsible for the controversy. Congress members, meanwhile, raised the issue of the MMDR Amendment Act, 2026, and demanded that the legislation not be implemented in Odisha.
Despite repeated appeals from Deputy Speaker Bhabani Shankar Bhoi to the protesting members to return to their seats and allow the House to function, the Opposition members continued their sloganeering.
With the din showing no signs of abating, the Deputy Speaker eventually adjourned the House till 4 pm.
