Bhubaneswar: An earthquake of magnitude 3.9 shook Odisha’s Debagada district on Monday night, according to the National Center for Seismology (NCS).
Tremors were also felt in parts of neighbouring Anugola district.
The earthquake occurred at 10:48:20 pm on September 28, 2026, the NCS said.
The epicentre of the quake was located at 21.179°N latitude and 84.774°E longitude, at a depth of 20 km, according to the seismological agency.
The NCS classified the earthquake as a reviewed event.
Tremors were felt in several areas of Debagada district, including Chadheimara, Barkot, Debagarh, Kundheigola and Reamal. The tremors were also felt in parts of Anugola district, including Khamar, Patakamunda, Kosala and Bagadia, as well as in parts of Chhendipada block.
There were no immediate reports of casualties or structural damage, reports said.
The sudden ground movement, however, triggered brief panic among residents in the affected areas, with some people rushing out of their homes as a precautionary measure.
