Kataka: A fresh allegation of ragging has surfaced at Ravenshaw University, with a second-year undergraduate student of Jagannath Hostel alleging mental and physical harassment by a group of third-year students following a dispute over an online mobile game.
According to the student’s complaint, the incident occurred after he objected to the alleged use of unfair means by some senior students while playing the game. The objection reportedly led to an altercation, following which the seniors allegedly called him near their hostel room and subjected him to mental and physical harassment.
The student later approached the university’s Anti-Ragging Cell and lodged a complaint. He also emailed the Registrar and Chief Warden, seeking their intervention and appropriate action.
The exact nature and extent of the alleged harassment were not immediately known.
The allegation has once again brought the issue of student safety and ragging in university hostels into focus. Further action by the university authorities is awaited.
