Bhubaneswar: In connection with the tragic roof collapse during Ganesh idol immersion in Jatani that killed one person and left seven others injured, the Commissionerate Police have arrested two DJ owners and seized two DJ vehicles.
The arrested have been identified as owners of AI Pintu DJ of Dhenkanal and Smart DJ of Balasore. Police have also issued a notice to the house owner whose concrete slab collapsed.
The incident took place late Saturday night on Jatni main road when a mega immersion procession, comprising over 40 Lord Ganesh idols, was underway. Loud DJ music was being played during the procession despite restrictions.
According to police, several people, including deceased Biswajeet Barik (30) of Harirajpur in Delanga, were standing beneath a two-storey building to witness the procession when the concrete canopy collapsed due to vibrations caused by high-decibel DJ music.
Barik was first rushed to Jatani Community Health Centre (CHC) and later shifted to AIIMS-Bhubaneswar, where doctors declared him brought dead. Six others, including two women, sustained injuries.
Police said action is being taken against organisers who violated norms by playing loud DJ music during the immersion procession.
